Sprout 'fizz'

evala

Sprout “fizz”” is a 128.4.4-channel, immersive sound installation. In the title “Sprout,” the words “SP Out,” which is an abbreviation for “speaker out,” are hidden. Audio cables crawl along the floor and walls like living ivy, and the work comprises numerous small original speakers, each uniquely shaped like a sprout and emitting sound independently. Visitors are free to explore the installation at their own pace. The sound sources in this work consist primarily of digital noise, creating an ambiguous acoustic environment that is both artificial and natural. When listening to the white noise from a single speaker, it simply sounds like static. But when experienced as a whole through a unique 3D sound system and spatial composition, sound rains from above, flows from the sides, and ripples throughout the space.

Your entire body is transported into artificial nature—at times, it feels as if you are standing beneath a waterfall, submerged in the sea, or walking through a forest wrapped in the rustling of leaves. This unique immersive experience evokes imaginative sensations beyond what the eyes can perceive—like a dream seen without using one’s eyes. This piece is not fixed to its current 128.4.4-channel configuration. The number of independently operating speaker units can be expanded, allowing the system to grow and evolve—much like a living organism.
