DIYAUTO ORCHESTRA
Simon Lazarus 84
Artwork Description:
Synopsis. The visitor enters a darkened space. A procession of colorful shapes adorned with animated textures slowly glides across the walls. A sheet of sound bathes the space. A few musical notes hatch intermittently from its surface. On the floor, several steles are arranged, lit from above. On them sits a collection of hybrid objects assembled from wood, metal, electronics and biomaterials. Audiences are invited to manipulate these electro-organic chimeras, triggering audiovisual events. Everyone is free to sit down and let themselves float, or try to tame this strange flora for the duration of an audiovisual buff. . Diy-Auto, it’s a live, it’s alive. The “DIY” in the title is a nod to our method of fabrication (home-made software and hardware) and an injunction to the public wishing to see an audio-visual performance : Do it yourself! The “AUTO” stands for the computer generating the audiovisual stream in real time, and the sculptures following their own path, mutating at the pace of their cellular development. Sometimes you have to learn to let go and let it happen (-: The visual and sonic environment unfolds as the instruments are explored, in a poetic alchemy between living molecules and pixels under algorithm. Pleasure of contemplating something that will never be repeated. Mutant paintings. Living controllers. Shooting star music.
