Claudia Bueno

Artwork Description:

Step into Claudia Bueno's aquarium-style installation at Meow Wolf's Omega Mart in Las Vegas and experience the slow, oscillating movements of natural life. Hypnotic and meditative, 'Pulse' draws visitors into a world that exists somewhere between the microscopic and the cosmic -- where the patterns of nature repeat endlessly, and the boundary between the viewer and the living, glowing world around them begins quietly to dissolve. 'Pulse' is comprised of countless white line drawings meticulously hand-painted with light-reflecting markers and superimposed across a 5-inch deep stack of acrylic panels housed in custom steel frames. When illuminated, they mimic scores of nautilus spirals, coral, vines, and botanics that sway and throb in glowing masses. The 10 x 10 x 10 ft. site-specific room is brought to life by a custom LED lighting system concealed within the steel frames, ranging from cool white to warm white, designed to shine through the acrylic layers in a way that produces the illusion of visual movement and depth. The light sequences are programmed with a generative, responsive system that evolves dynamically in synchronization with an original soundscape by Meason Wiley. The installation is mapped into sections, each carrying a specific sound matched to its visual imagery -- so that when an area illuminates, its corresponding sound activates in perfect sync. The result is a fully unified audiovisual experience where light and sound breathe together, responding to one another in an ever-shifting, living composition.
