Repeat as necessary: Performance Operating System

Operator

Artwork Description:

The body is technology. The most ancient, the most democratic, the most universally shared. Performance art has long carried a structural problem. Every preservation model leans on something outside the work: a foundation that outlives the artist, a body that remembers, a certificate in custody, a chain that breaks when someone forgets. Operator built a different answer. The Performance Operating System is an open on-chain architecture that holds every parameter needed to regenerate a live performance indefinitely, without the artists, institutions, or permission. Repeat as necessary is its first instantiation: a 31-minute ritual through four collective nervous-system states (threshold, entrainment, dissolving, garden), premiered in Bodrum with seven dancers. Repetitive movement, breath, and tuned frequencies sync audience and performer. The 1/1 HTML NFT is literally an operating system: it fires events, assembles state from on-chain data, and renders the architecture live. A registry indexes nine data contracts, eight surfacing as hover-responsive zones (notation, choreography, music, video, motion, provenance, costume, 40 Notations). Holding one token from each chapter shifts the artwork's state. Operator invented a visual grammar and taxonomy scoring dancer positions, breath, and audience nervous-system states, documented in a legend. The 40 Notations are held by independent collectors; the Performance Operating System by a single collector. Operator's Generative Choreography Method (2023) encoded movement; this encodes everything live performance depends on. The work refuses performance's impossible choice: collected and frozen, or alive and unsustained. Where documentation preserves past performances, this is an engine for future ones. The system is the work.
